Lack of Blogging
is due to keeping myself busy planning this little guys first birthday party (it helps me keep my mind off the fact he will be turning ONE very soon, too soon!)
If you make your way over to our house, you might just get to take part in cupcake testing, as I have turned our kitchen into a little bake shoppe; trying to come up with the perfect cupcake for Ben's party and to avoid spending a fortune on the cake I really want!

Here is the conversation between me and Owen as he greeted me at his door this morning...
Me: Good morning Owen.
Owen: Change the dy-per.
Owen: BIG giant POOP!
Me: Owen, did you go potty?
Owen:Yes! BIG GIANT POOP!
Owen: Brown, my favorite color.
Me: Is brown your favorite color?
Owen: Yes
(I changed his diaper and he had not pooped.)

1 year
For the past year I have been complaining about our mattress. It seems that ever since we moved I have not been able to get comfortable when I sleep. I put a pillow behind my back to support myself and I wake up feeling tired and sore (this is every morning for the past year!)
We painted our room in February and at this point we realized the box spring under my side of the bed was not level; it was actually sloping a good bit. Danny tried adjusting the metal support bars, but nothing.... my side still sloped (meanwhile, his side is flat and he has been sleeping peacefully the entire time...)
Tuesday morning I woke up feeling really bad and was just about over this bed! I was either going to call Tyson Furniture to come figure it out or I would rearrange the furniture with the plan that Danny could have the defective side of the bed for the next year and we would just rotate until it was time to buy again.
By lunch I had began to rearrange and quickly realized I was not strong enough to maneuver a king mattress nor a king size bed, so I waited for Danny. As soon as he got home for lunch, I had him come look at the bed. At this point, we (or he) figured out the problem. When the movers set up our bed, they but the bed rail on his side in the top of two slots and the rail on my side was in the bottom of the two slots. I don't know if this makes any since to you, but regardless, it was not level and this is why my box spring sloped down and Danny's was flat.
I guess Danny wanted to figure out what was wrong so he wouldn't have to sleep on the defective side of the bed for the next year.
After he fixed the bed, I told him I wanted to rearrange the room. The only reason the furniture was arranged the way it was, was because I didn't want to cover an air vent. He didn't have time, so when he got home from work we moved everything around.

We still need window treatments, a box spring cover, something on the walls and a few accessories, but nonetheless, I slept like a baby last night and my back doesn't hurt today.

Weekend get-a-way!
Danny and I have been needing a vacation for sometime; I think ALL of us needed to get a way for a few days (including Molly and Sam!) Lucky for us, one of Danny's best friends lives in Wilmington, just a few miles from Carolina Beach, aaaaand they have a POOL. Darwin and Kate are expecting their first baby in October, so we knew we needed to go see them before they completely transformed their guest room into a nursery.
We left Asheville Thursday evening and made an overnight stop in Denver to visit with mom and Chip and to leave Molly and Sam with them. Darwin and Kate already have 3 dogs and 2 cats and we were not about to subject them to 2 more animals (Owen, Ben and all they things were plenty to ruin them from having us visit ever again!)
Friday morning we got on the road and finally made our way into Wilmington sometime after 2pm. I think 2 days at the beach, time in the pool, a trip to the aquarium and a stop for ice cream constitutes as a vacation, don't you?
This trip was not without it's drama, seat kicking, dog bites, crying and screaming, but it was by all means a trip away from home that we all needed! Thanks Darwin and Kate for taking us in for the weekend and mom and Chip for watching Molly and Sam!!!

11 months old
Let the countdown begin...
It's so hard to believe we are ONE month away from celebrating the first year of Ben's life! He has changed so much lately and is really starting to act and look a lot more like a one year old and A LOT less like a baby. However, HE'S STILL MY BABY!!!
Not too sure about all those homemade "E's."
Loves to look out the window!

Best GIGGLE ever!!!!
- 10 ½ months cut top incisors and 3rd tooth on bottom (this one was a surprise!). Making for a total of 7 teeth. WOW!
- 5/25 started clapping by himself and on cue (super, super cute!)
- LOVES Mickey Mouse and lights up when he comes on TV
- Likes to play in the cabinets, dishwasher, dog bowls, and under the desk
- Climbs on EVERTHING
- Cruising the furniture really well
- Giggles when you help him walk around.
- Thinks our bath tub is a drum
- Likes to play on our bath scale
- Discovered the toilet paper and loves to pull it off the roll when you’re not looking
- Has eaten a few new table foods this month- green bean and cheese
- Had his first teething biscuit. We had been looking for the Gerber ones and they are always out of them at the store, so we finally bought the Earth’s Best kind.
- Entertains us with an adorable sound he makes when flapping his lips with his hand. He’ll copy you if you’re doing it. I think he knows it’s cuter when he does it!
- Loves to play hide-and-seek and peek-a-boo
- LOVES being in the water. The bath and pool are huge hits!!!
- Doesn’t like to ride in the car for very long. I think he’s bored. I think facing forward will be more enjoyable for him!
- Doesn’t stay still for diaper changes or when getting dressed.
- Loves to be naked!
- Gets his feelings hurt if you sit him down or take something from him. We call him “Our Sensitive Child.”
- Is scared by Owen’s squeals and letter sounds, especially the A sound (which Owen screams!)
- Is super busy and doesn’t sit still for too long.
- Is super, super sweet and loving! I am so glad he’s mine!!!!

Surprise and planned guests and a trip to the pool...
ALL make for a WONDERFUL weekend!!!
Friday night our old neighbor and dear friend, Kristen, called and said she was in town and her and her daughter, Erin would like to come visit. I couldn't have been more excited to see them!!!
Erin and Owen went upstairs and played and played while Kristen and I had a chance to visit and catch-up. It was such a wonderful surprise visit!!!

Saturday, we decided to go grab lunch at Blue Sky Cafe and while I was packing lunch for Owen and Ben, Danny mentioned going to the pool. Owen overheard and got so excited, there was no way we couldn't take him!
It was a perfect afternoon with a nice breeze and the pool wasn't too packed. Owen was like a little fish and was a little more daring than we thought he'd be. Last year he was more interested in running in the grass and around the pool and all we did was chase him. This time, we had a hard time getting him out of the water (that was until he was ready to take a nap.)
We had taken Ben to the pool a few weeks after he was born and we went to the beach last year when he was 2 months, but he was too young to actually get in the water. This was his first real pool experience, and he LOVED it!!!
It's hard to tell here, but Owen loves his swim vest and refused to take it off. He napped like this for about 2 hours.
Danny and put sunscreen on the kids, but didn't put any on ourselves and are paying for it dearly! Note to lobster-self.... WEAR sunscreen next time!!!
After the pool, we got home and inflated the kids new bouncy house my mom bought them last week (it's rained every day and our back yard has been super soggy, so this was our first opportunity to get it out.)
Owen, Ben and our neighbor's little boy, Everett, had a ball playing in it. I imagine we'll be getting it out a lot this summer. Hopefully to wear them out before bedtime!!!
On Sunday, another old neighbor, Michael, stopped by to visit and meet Ben. He was in town to photograph a wedding at the Biltmore House. We had really nice visit and wish he lived closer! Arkansas is WAY too far away!!!
(I took a few pictures of Michael with Owen and Ben, but for the life of me can not find where I left the camera....)
