From Owen's teacher...

Week of: June 27, 2011

This week we learned about: Tadpoles and the lifecycle of Frogs, 3D shapes, Volcanoes, Kindness, Reviewing the Alphabet, A visit from Andrea – our Library Reader (Tuesday)_

Our Integrated Art Project activities were: Mixed media shakers, Clay volcanoes!

Show and Tell Next Week: A musical instrument or Antarctic animal

(His teacher got several tadpoles for the kids to watch turn into frogs. Super fun!)

Summer of Fun

I am always looking for fun things to do with the kids and fun things that are free are even better! Yesterday I ran across the idea for a "Summer of Fun" activity chart over on THIS blog. I love charts and so does Owen, so this was the perfect activity kit for us!

The KIT includes a ton of ideas for summer activities and they are color coded based on type of activity. I printed everything out, organized in baggies and then let the kids each pick something for us to do this week. I wanted to go ahead and plan out the week just in case I needed to gather any particular supplies in advance. For instance, we are going to talk about clouds on Thursday, so I'll make sure we get to the library to get some books, take some picture of clouds, do a cloud cotton ball picture, etc.

Owen woke up this morning and the first thing he said was, " Mommy, is today the first day of our summer of fun?"

So today we invited some friends over for a water balloon fight (that took me way longer to fill the balloons than it did to pop them), and then some sprinkler, water table and water gun fun. This afternoon, the boys get to help me with laundry (the pink activity that Ben selected :))

Week of: June 20, 2011

This week we learned about: Aboriginal people of Australia, Frogs, Vowels, More Daily Routines, Start of Summer!, Teamwork, Making Chalk Rivers (outside!)

Our Integrated Art Project activities were: Aboriginal Dreamtime Paintings and X-ray Drawings_

Show and Tell Next Week: A favorite book!!

(Students may bring show and tell once a week – any day they wish!)

6 months

Audrey went for her 6 month well check today.

Here are her monthly stats:

Weight- 18 lbs 2.5 oz (90%)
Height- 26 3/4in (90%)
Head- 17.76in (97%)

She had her regular 6 month vaccines today and won' t go back again until she's 9 months. She is running a fever and has developed a red spot by her right ear and on her left leg (note to self: watch these areas for the next few days.)

and at 6 months she...

loves to bounce. ate rice cereal at 5 months 3 days and we added mashed banana on June 9th and avocado June 19th. pushes up with arms and pushes off with feet. lots of babble and giggles and a little of what sounds like dada in there. rolling machine. grabs at toucan and gecko on bouncer. puts everything in her mouth. grabs our cheeks and holds our hands. is really good and fast at pulling our hair. chews on an extra wash cloth when taking a bath. loves bath time. sitting unsupported for short periods of time. still loves books and music. favorite toys include: Sophie the giraffe, teething rings, bunny, v-tech ball, little piano, sound stage, Baby Einstein soft books, and anything small enough for her to get her hands on.loves to be outside. sleeps great at night. blue eyes and curly strawberry blonde hair. size 3 diapers. 6-12 month clothes. Still nurses every 3-4 hours. takes naps in crib or Ergo if we are out and about. still co-sleeps with me at night...I'm not ready to give that up yet.

She loves to cuddle and be held and is just as loving as she looks. I can't seem to get enough of her!

new foods for Audrey

For the past few weeks Audrey has been eating rice cereal for breakfast and just about every other day I'll mix in about 1 tablespoon of mashed banana. She LOVES it! I have been waiting to start her on more foods, but today it just seemed right... so unlike the boys who both ate peas first, I decided to try avocado with Audrey...

(It was a little difficult taking the pictures and feeding her at the same time, and it doesn't help that she likes to eat and bounce at the same time.)

Homemade gifts from the kids....


We celebrated this weekend with dinner Friday night at Universal Joint in West Asheville, picnic and splashing in the river at Coontree Picnic area in Brevard on Saturday and Sunday we had breakfast at Bruegger's Bagels and went to the WNC Farmer's Market.

Tomorrow, our Audrey turns 6 months...

Our Integrated Art Project activities were: ‘If I was a flower’ mixed media works, Special Father’s Day surprise (using fabric, chalk and milk!) – ask your child what we did!!

Show and Tell Next Week: Frogs, volcanoes or anything to do with the Vowels!

Owen goes to Preschool

Today was finally the day Owen has been waiting for! It's been almost a year since we initially toured and fell in love with Owen's preschool...he's been on a waiting list for a very long time and was so excited to finally get to spend the day at school!

Ben was not happy to leave Owen behind. He cried, and cried and may have taken this day harder than me and Danny.

Sooo....this one makes me cry...not a little...but a lot!
